On Friday, March 17th, the Georgia Swarm Lacrosse team made Chris Watkins’ dreams come true with an opportunity to become a professional lacrosse player for the day. Eight-year-old Chris Watkins of Acworth, Georgia, who was diagnosed AML (Leukemia) in May of 2016, spent an entire day with the team living out his dream!
Chris’ VIP day included practice with the team in the morning, a press conference where he signed his one-day contract, a locker room tour, pre-game warm-ups on the field, his very own introduction onto the field at the beginning of the game and participation in the ceremonial ball drop. The team gifted their honorary member a personalized jersey, helmet and lacrosse stick. After the ceremonial ball drop Chris helped cheer on the team to victory from his glass-side seats!
Chris was chosen to be one of 13 children who took part in this year’s annual trip to Walt Disney World® as a part of Bert’s Big Adventure. Bert’s Big Adventure is a nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. He was surprised with this unique opportunity during the organization’s Big Send Off party hosted by The Bert Show which included a live broadcast of the nationally syndicated morning radio show, Disney characters and surprises for the children, with the ultimate goal of creating magical moments for these deserving families!
