We are saddened to report that Haleigh Lafayette lost her battle to sickle cell anemia (SS-Hemoglobin) on the night of June 10, 2013, at the age of 19. When she was 9 years old, Haleigh attended the first trip that Bert’s Big Adventure took to Walt Disney World in 2003.
Haleigh was such a vibrant and determined young lady. She was so beautiful, and in fact, when Haleigh joined the Bert’s Big Adventure family in 2003, she was the poster child for sickle cell anemia.
Haleigh had never seen the beach and asked her family if they could take a trip to see the ocean. Her mother, Michelle, honored this request and Haleigh passed away in Destin, Florida, shortly after seeing the beach for the first time.
“Our hearts are heavy with sadness; however, we take great comfort in knowing that Haleigh was able to have her wish come true by going to see the beach with her mother.” – Bert and Stacey Weiss.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Haleigh’s family and friends.
