General FAQs:

When will the postponed trip take place?

That’s a great question! To be candid, we don’t know. We will not reschedule our annual, all-expenses-paid journey to Walt Disney World until we feel it’s safe for every child, family member, and staff member. But we promise, we can’t wait to get back to Disney and we’re checking in daily with our medical committee and the CDC for guidance. As soon as we know, we’ll let you know!

FAQs for Applicants:

Do I have to re-apply?

Unfortunately, yes. Our selection committee – which is made up of doctors and nurses throughout the community – will need to review your child’s current and most up-to-date diagnosis and will require an updated medical questionnaire from your primary physician to ensure the trip is safe for your child. In line with Bert’s Big Adventure’s mission, we will also need to confirm that your child still meets the qualifications.

How will families be selected for the postponed trip?

Interested families must first fill out an application to be considered, as well as the child’s primary physician. We receive hundreds of applications each year so the review process is pretty extensive. As we are a small organization, we are limited in the number of families that we can take each year to Walt Disney World. For that reason, our selection committee – which is made up of doctors and nurses throughout the community – painstakingly struggles over each application. While it’s an EXTREMELY difficult decision for the committee, the families that are selected typically have some of the most difficult day-to-day struggles and the longest battles, while still maintaining the most positive attitudes!

What if my child/family no longer meets the qualifications for Bert’s Big Adventure if the trip is postponed?

If your child no longer meets the age requirements stated in our mission statement when the annual journey to Disney is rescheduled, we truly regret that we cannot accommodate your family. We wish we could take everyone! However, there are many wonderful organizations that offer assistance with wish trips, as well as local organizations that provide recreational programs and events for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and their families.
