Launched in May of 2010 thanks to the incredible generosity of our dear friends at Carter’s Charitable Foundation, our Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program was created for Bert’s Big Adventure children and their families to help comfort the stress and uncertainty of hospitalizations.

The beloved fairy godparents visit Bert’s Big Adventure kiddos at partner hospitals daily throughout their hospitalization, bringing toys, activities, a warm meal and a much-needed break for the entire family. Today, the Fairy Godparent spotlight is shining bright on the incredibly selfless Meaghan! She shared a bit about her magical journey as a Fairy Godparent, and it’s clear that her love and compassion allow our kids to simply be what they are meant to be – kids.

“I joined Bert’s Big Adventure as a Fairy Godparent a few years ago. For as long as I can remember, I had heard about Bert’s Big Adventure and was seeking a way to be involved. One of my former colleagues and lovely friends, Amber, joined Bert’s Big Adventure team and told me about the Fairy Godparent Program.”
“As soon as applications opened, I signed up and have loved every single moment I’ve had with Bert’s Big Adventure since!”

Magical Moments
“One of my earliest standout moments was my first hospital visit with Abby. I didn’t know what to expect when walking into her hospital room, but the moment I walked in, both she and her mom, Desiree, were amazing. I was there with the goal of easing their day in the hospital a little bit with toys or distractions, but I left with such a feeling of love from both of them. To see someone going through such a difficult medical period in their life be kind, loving, and welcoming was so unexpected. Unfortunately, since that first visit, I have been back to the hospital many times to see Abby, but each time I visited her, she was always so lovely. When I received a Christmas card this past year from Abby and her family, I truly felt that the little time I spent with her meant something not only to me but to her and her family as well. This small act of kindness shows how Bert’s Big Adventure and the Fairy Godparent Program create long-lasting connections, and I can’t wait to form more.”

“A more recent standout moment was just this past Noon to Night: Fall Fashion Benefit at Avalon. Anyone who knows me knows I dislike photos and I am always as “behind the scenes” as possible. This year I paired off with Sky, a sweet girl who went on the Bert’s Big Adventure Walt Disney World trip in 2025, to play with before the fashion show. Lo and behold, she wouldn’t let go of my hand when it was time to do the big entrance of the show, so I walked down the big blue runway with her for the first pass. Although I avoid photos and things like that at all costs, the fact that Sky wanted me to walk with her after just hanging out with me for an hour or so showed me how amazing all of these Bert’s Big Adventure kids are. No matter what they are going through in life, whether it’s an upcoming surgery or a hospital stay, they are always optimistic and kind. If walking down the runway and having photos taken puts a smile on their face, then sign me up for years to come!” – Meaghan Eustice
